Welcome to the Friends of Bwindi website
Friends of Bwindi * is a small UK-based charitable organisation supporting individuals and communities near to Bwindi Impenetrable Rainforest in south west Uganda.
There is great poverty in the region, worsened by the devastating effects of HIV/AIDs which has resulted in a huge number of orphaned and vulnerable children - there are 2.5 million orphaned children in Uganda, including approximately 1.2m as a result of HIV/AIDs.
The numbers are overwhelming and we cannot help them all. But by sharing our time, skills and other resources we can help individuals and communities in the Bwindi region to make a better future.
Money goes a long way in Uganda, and there are lots more ways to help out too - your contribution could really make a difference.
We aim to work in partnership with local people, helping them to implement projects for which they have identified a need. We provide direct practical and financial support to local individuals, families and community groups.

Friends of Bwindi has no paid staff - the organisation is run entirely by volunteers working from home, so overheads are minimal. We aim to use the funds entrusted to us in the most effective ways possible, and insist on transparency and accountability from those receiving funds.
We do not send mass mailings or similar publicity, but you are welcome to subscribe to our occasional newsletter, or subscribe to updates from our blog by Email or rss feed.
Friends of Bwindi is run entirely by volunteers working from home. We have no paid staff and no office costs, and we do not send out mass mailings or use other costly fund raising methods. We have charitable tax status, enabling us to claim Gift Aid on eligible donations. Bank transfer costs are more than covered by Gift Aid, eBay auctions and other fund raising enabling us to send 100% of your donation to our beneficiaries in Uganda.
