What We Do
Friends of Bwindi support organisations and individuals in a variety of ways.
There are lots of people around Bwindi doing amazing work to support the community with very few resources. Factors including the remoteness of the area, poor communications, limited computer access and limited capital make it difficult for many of them to publicise their work and raise the funds needed.
Many talented students struggle to complete their high school education and are unable to take up offers of college places. We now have a college fund so that we can support students through college, helping them to reach their potential and increasing their ability to support their families and make a difference to their communities.
We aim to ...
Increase the profile of local organisations by building websites and other publicity.
Assist communications with sponsors and other supporters to reduce the disadvantages caused by the remoteness of the district.
Support fund raising - We can reduce overheads by enabling supporters to donate on our website or to our UK account instead of transferring funds direct to Uganda, which adds a large amount to each payment. By combining payments we can reduce these overheads and increase the proportion of donations available for charitable purposes.
Supporters can be confident that when funds are donated to 'Friends of Bwindi' our trustees must monitor the funds after transfer and check that they are used as intended, in line with UK charity law.
Liaise with relevant UK charities and other organisations that may be able to support the work of local organisations.
Raise funds - We aim to use a variety of fund raising methods including donor and grant funding as well as online affiliate schemes to link to our websites and internet auctions of donated goods. We will also approach companies who supply goods that could be supplied to our beneficiaries, requesting favourable terms/donations of goods.
Provide any other advice and support as appropriate.
Our charitable objects allow us to support many projects in the community
